Sphagnum Moss Planting - Moors for the Future Partnership
Jun 28, 2022
River Stewardship Company has been delivering large sphagnum moss planting contracts for the Moors for the Future Partnership for the last 2 years.
Sphagnum mosses are important in forming peat, and the re-vegetation of degraded blanket peat will help to reduce peat loss and encourage regeneration. This in turn will be important in restarting other moorland processes such as carbon sequestration.
Sphagnum regeneration also helps to restore water tables, contributing to flood defence through affecting the quantity and timing of water discharge, and helps to improve water quality.
