2007
The South Yorkshire floods highlighted lots of issues with local rivers - debris blocked bridges, stopping water flow, which contributed to severe flood damage to the local community.
2008
The RSC was born, delivering maintenance and improvement work on Sheffield’s waterways, complementing the work of its founding partners around conservation, catchments, volunteering, education, and socio-economic regeneration.
2010
Sheffield Lower Don Valley Flood Alleviation Scheme vegetation management programme – the very first river stewardship programme, undertaking a little and often maintenance programme to reduce INNS, remove litter, manage vegetation and remove at-risk trees, all with the aim to minimise the impact of high water events, protecting the Lower Don Valley area of Sheffield.
2010
RSC created the Blue Loop, a group to engage and encourage local volunteers to assist in the improvement of their local waterways. The group is still going strong after 12 years.
2016
RSC expanded their portfolio of works and embarked on their first works on the moorlands of the Peak District and the South Pennines. Delivering works from Source to Sea.
2017
The RSC became an approved contractor for the Environment Agency framework, delivering services across the whole of Yorkshire.
2018
Working with the Environment Agency, the RSC started the pioneering programme delivering a Yorkshire-wide invasive species management programme, surveying and treating Giant Hogweed and Japanese Knotweed. across all the main rivers of Yorkshire.
2021
Thanks to Yorkshire Water funding, RSC delivered the first River Stewardship Skills Programme in Leeds, offering trainees the chance to learn and develop their skills and knowledge in waterway management.
2022
Riverlution CIC (Community Interest Company) was created. The growing Riverlution programme, paid for by reinvesting the profits made by the RSC, to deliver social impact across the rivers of Yorkshire, has enabled us to create Riverlution CIC to further develop and expand our social good.
