Invasive Non-Native Species Management - Environment Agency

Building on projects in 2016 and 2017, we have just completed one of the largest catchment-scale invasive non-native species management projects in the country.

This includes treatment of Japanese Knotweed, Giant Hogweed and Floating Pennywort within the Calder, Aire and Don catchments.

In  addition, we have surveyed over 450 km of watercourse throughout Yorkshire for invasive weeds, with the aim of recording and reporting what is growing, and where. This provided guidance to the Environment Agency on the scale of management resource needed in future years.

Through this project, we have also delivered a programme of land owner and community engagement to raise awareness of invasive non-native species.
